Why another Math site?

When do I tell students my name, when they ask as that is when it is relevant. I follow this idea for how this site grows. Since teaching Math at over 20 schools, I have been asked for videos and sites from students to follow. I truly believe I work for my students and this should be evident through my posts and videos.

Math is a subject that has myself and students connecting and engaging while learning. Much of my work is continuously improved upon through discussions with colleagues, professors and as importantly students. I welcome discussion with other educators and feedback from students.

What this site isn't is a full course or lists of learning outcomes from a curriculum document. Instead this site focusses on what is being witnessed as missed in current systems. Often I like to find humour in explaining concepts as students who laugh are relaxed and lose learning blocks. Concepts and properties are consistent in math; the variation is in the presentation/teaching. Each class I work with I hear the same excitement and surprise with how easy math is and should be. My work is attempting to making math accessible through varied presentations.  

"Learning for Life" is a motto I live by, with five degrees and starting another Masters this fall. Currently as an OT I have a unique opportunity observing common issues while learning math from a large number of students. This site is a part of how I'm attempting to address these issues.
